Guitar 8: Section 72
Instructor: Ms. Kay   
 The mission of the Performing Arts Exploratory Classes is to develop student creativity and performance abilities in order to effectively communicate to others through music and/or drama and to help students become knowledgeable consumers of the arts. Classes are designed to meet the Illinois State Fine Arts Standards and to work toward 21st Century Fluencies of Creative Fluency, Solution Fluency and Collaboratioin Fluency. Grades will be based mostly on performance (teacher assessed and student self-assessment) but will also include written assignments and assessments.

 Guitar: Students will learn the basic fundamentals of playing and tuning the acoustic guitar. Students will learn and practice reading notes in the Treble Clef, tablature, and chord charts. Students will learn and practice playing melodies, improvisation, chords, composing melodies and chord progressions, and various strumming patterns. Students will learn the history of the guitar, how it is made, and the science behind how the sound is produced. Students will learn about the history of the Blues and how to play the 12 bar blues on the guitar.

  • Label the strings p.3
  • # the fingers p.4
  • notes of the 1st and 2nd strings (on the staff and on fret chart) p. 6 & p.8
  • line and space notes of the treble clef p.5
  • recognize whole, half, and quarter notes and how many beats they get p.5
  • chords Em E A D p. 47
  • label the parts of the guitar (see guitar diagram)
Stonegrove Guitar helped us fix two guitars for the 2016-2017 school year
We would like publicly thank Max Dombrowski owner of Stonegrove Guitar for fixing two of our guitars for free over the summer of 2016. Stonegrove Guitar is located at 721 W.
